On February 4, 2026, Today’s Junior Golfer (TJG) had a unique opportunity to bring the voices of junior golf directly into the heart of the PGA TOUR spotlight.
Armed with official Media Passes granted by the PGA and the Thunderbirds, TJG attended Media Day at the WM Open at TPC Scottsdale with one clear mission: to ask PGA TOUR professionals the kind of questions junior golfers wish they could ask themselves.
To do that, TJG selected local Arizona junior golfer Maverick Midthun to conduct interviews on behalf of its junior-golf readership—placing a junior golfer directly in front of the game’s elite.
The Media Day lineup featured an impressive trio of past WM Open champions:
- Scottie Scheffler (World No. 1)
- Sahith Theegala
- Brooks Koepka (five-time major champion)
A Special Moment with Scottie Scheffler
The first player to arrive in the Media Center was Scottie Scheffler, and the room was buzzing. The moment became even more special when Scottie walked in carrying his young son, gently placing him on a chair just off the stage—a quiet, heartfelt reminder that even the world’s best golfers are first and foremost family men.
After a brief opening statement, the floor opened to questions. Veteran reporters quickly filled the air with microphones, eager for insight from the World No. 1. Despite being ready with a junior-golf question, Maverick wasn’t selected before the final question was called—but the experience itself set the tone for the day.

Sahith Theegala: Don’t Lose the Fun Chasing Distance
An hour later, Sahith Theegala entered the Media Center, and this time Maverick knew he had to be assertive. He raised his hand early—and was selected.
Introducing himself on behalf of Today’s Junior Golfer, Maverick shared his admiration for Sahith’s journey and asked:
“What two tips would you give a junior golfer who wants to someday sit in the same seat you’re in today?”
Sahith graciously thanked Maverick and delivered advice rooted in real experience:
- Today’s juniors are stronger, faster, and hitting the ball farther than ever—but don’t chase distance at the expense of your overall game.
- When Sahith struggled with his driver, he didn’t abandon practice—but he leaned into what he loved most: short game and chipping.
- He spent hours playing chipping games with friends, staying competitive, having fun, and keeping his passion alive while he worked through tougher areas.
The message was clear: hang in there, work on your weaknesses, but never lose the joy of the game.

Brooks Koepka: Practice with Purpose
Several hours later, the Media Center fell silent as Brooks Koepka made his entrance. Reporters signaled quickly for microphones—and fittingly, Maverick was given the final question of the day.
Representing junior golfers everywhere, Maverick asked:
“As junior golfers, we all go through rough times. Can you describe a rough stretch in your career and how you worked through it?”
Brooks’ answer resonated deeply:
- “You’re never as far away as you think.”
- Quality over quantity matters—sometimes fewer swings with more intention are better than endless balls on the range.
- Practice with purpose.
- Mix it up: play from different tee boxes, use different clubs, and challenge yourself to score under par in creative ways.
It was a masterclass in mindset from one of the game’s fiercest competitors.
Advice Junior Golfers Can Carry Forward
Both Theegala and Koepka delivered powerful, practical advice that junior golfers can apply immediately—whether they’re chasing tournament wins or simply trying to enjoy the journey.
